PALAKKAD: A mother and her son died when the wall of their house collapsed at Kannambra, near Vadakkenchery in Palakkad. Kottekkad Veettil Sulochana (70) and Ranjith (32) died in their house when the rear wall of the one-room house where they lived collapsed due to heavy rain late on Monday evening.

“Since there was heavy rain in the area last night, none of the locals heard the sound of the wall collapse. When locals arrived this morning, they noticed that the wall had collapsed. Information was then conveyed to the fire brigade and rescue team. When they arrived, they found both of them lying amidst the fallen debris. They were rushed to the Alathur Taluk Hospital but were declared brought dead,” said a senior officer from Vadakkencherry police station.

Locals said Sulochana, wife of deceased Sivan, was bedridden for a long time. Ranjith worked in a private bus in Thrissur as a conductor and the family was living on Ranjith’s daily wages. “They had applied for a new house in the panchayat and the accident happened when the trial was underway,” locals told media.

Vadakkencherry police reached the spot and the bodies were shifted to Palakkad District Hospital for post-mortem.
