PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – At least 11 people, including three women and six children, were killed when rainwater entered the basement of a house in Peshawar’s Dara Adam Khel area.

According to rescue officials, rainwater flooded the basement of Amjad’s house, killing 11 people. All the bodies were recovered from the scene.

Meanwhile, eight people lost their lives in Tharparkar due to lightning strikes. Three deaths occurred due to heavy rain in Rawalpindi.

Moreover, many low-lying areas in Islamabad and Rawalpindi were flooded as monsoon flows hit these cities.

NDMA DECLARES FLOOD ALERT

The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) has said the ongoing monsoon spell in the country may cause flash floods and inundation in urban areas in many areas, warning that flash floods may catch people by surprise.

“Even as little as six inches of flowing water can sweep you off your feet, while as little as a foot of flowing water can sweep away a vehicle. Bridges can be dangerous during floods. Avoid crossing bridges if the water is flowing fast. Avoid staying in weak structures. Seek shelter in safe places in case of heavy rain,” the NDMA said in its advisory.

Disaster response authorities had earlier launched the ‘Pak NDMA Disaster Alert’ app, which is available on Google PlayStore and iOS.
