Battling wasps in the summer can be a real pain in the neck—no one likes a painful sting. But fear not, there’s a remarkably simple strategy to keep them out of your home.

In late August and early September, summer is coming to an end and wasps often become more aggressive as their community structure breaks down when the queen stops laying eggs. As a result, the insects begin to seek new hiding places.

Also in this phase, the wasps stop hunting for proteins necessary for the larvae and begin to crave sweet substances, making them unwelcome guests at outdoor feasts, especially when sweet delicacies are popular at picnics or barbecues.

However, George, a home expert and creator of Homemade Mastery, has revealed a simple method to repel wasps from your home or garden using a homemade trap, reports Express.

George said: “Today I’m sharing with you an idea for a simple, homemade wasp trap so that you too can say goodbye to those annoying (and potentially dangerous) wasps!”

How to Make a Homemade Wasp Trap

You’ll be pleased to hear that this homemade trap is a piece of cake and takes just over five minutes to make. Despite this, it’s apparently effective at attracting wasps and then trapping them so they can’t escape. According to George, “This homemade wasp trap works by using a sweet liquid bait. The wasps fly into the bottle because they’re attracted to the scent of the bait. Once inside the bottle, they can’t find their way out and eventually drown in the liquid.”

Sugar or jam is a sure way to lure wasps into your trap, but it is important to add another sweet, liquid ingredient to the bait to ensure the pests drown quickly.

method

  • The first step is to place a few spoonfuls of your chosen bait ingredients into a plastic bottle.
  • After adding the bait, close the bottle and shake vigorously to mix the ingredients.
  • Then carefully cut off the top of the bottle with a knife or scissors. Turn this part over and place it back on top of the bottle so that the spout is now inside.
  • To make a handle for the trap, use a hole punch to make two holes opposite each other at the top. Thread wire or string through these holes to hang the trap in your chosen location.
  • Place the trap near a window or outside in a place where you don’t want wasps to come. The insects will soon be attracted to it.
  • Be sure to check the trap regularly and empty the bait to remove dead wasps. Be careful when handling the trap if there are live wasps inside to avoid stings.

With this simple solution, your home and garden will be wasp-free in no time, and you can enjoy the rest of your summer without worrying about these buzzing pests.
