Four people have been confirmed dead in a boat accident in Dundaye, Wamakko Local Government Area, Sokoto State.

The incident occurred on Sunday and the Head of NEMA Field Operations Office in Sokoto, Alhaji Aliyu Kafindangi, confirmed the death toll to NAN on Tuesday.

Kafindangi explained that a joint rescue team from NEMA, the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the Nigerian Red Cross, the Fire Department and local divers recovered the bodies. The team managed to rescue 19 of the 24 people involved in the accident.

“There were 24 people on the boat and 19 were rescued. One body was found on Sunday and three more on Monday, bringing the total number of victims to four. One person is still missing and the search is ongoing,” he said.
