Popular Geological Feature ‘Double Arch’ Collapses, National Park Service Says

(CNN) – “Double Arch,” a popular geologic formation in Utah’s Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, has collapsed, park officials said.

The National Park Service said a frequently visited area at Rock Creek collapsed last Thursday.

No injuries were reported.

This arch has also been called the “Toilet Bowl”, “Crescent Pool” and “Hole in the Roof”.

This feature was formed 190 million years ago. However, wind and rain over the years eventually caused it to erode.

The National Park Service suspects that changing water levels and erosion from wave action contributed to its eventual demise.
